COMP 5703: Technical Writing
This course prepares students to communicate their ideas effectively in writing to persons in and out of professional disciplines. The course centers on the knowledge and practice of format and style in technical writing when producing upper-level document design.
LITR 6003: Interactive Narratives
In this course, students examine interactive media, such as video games, ads, and texts, for literary techniques, including narrative approach, setting, theme, symbol, allegory, and rhetorical strategies. Students engage with various genres and forms of interactive media to compare storytelling approaches and to evaluate how literary techniques transform across media.
SPCH 6083: Interpersonal Communication
This course covers the study and application of the techniques involved in effective interpersonal communication. Text, lecture, and outside reading will cover the theories and concepts of verbal, vocal, nonverbal, and listening as they relate to communicating in interpersonal contexts.
COMM 100: The Mass Media and Society
By drawing from mass-communication-oriented topics, this course pays particular attention to the social influences, including economics, politics, technology, law and culture) that shape media messages.
COMM 190: Gaming and Interactive Media
The course introduces students to the digital interactive media industry for those considering employment in the sector, including video games and simulations, products for education, training, medicine, business, government/military, and virtual environments for a range of applications.
COMM 403: Law of Mass Communications
This seminar offers an in-depth analysis of contemporary First Amendment issues, from public policies and legal standards to defamation and invasion of privacy. Students explore the U.S. legal standards to better understand laws and policies.
SPCH 1083: Public Speaking
Introduces students to the verbal, nonverbal, and organizational skills necessary for giving effective and appropriate presentations. Students will learn the theory and principles of effective public speaking and practice these principles by performing and analyzing speeches.
